Subject: Two versions of Ultrinit
I don't know if anyone's noticed but the version of Ultrinit which comes
with v4.11 of the gus software is v2.29a, while the one that is in the
gus0045.zip file on EPAS is v2.31, yet this was released before v2.29a. What
gives?

To the person who is experiencing problems with a game card and an ACE
in the same machine:
Your ultrinit program is outdated. Get the newest one from one of the

Could somebody please tell me the exact name I should hunt for, if I'm
trying to buy a GUS card? Is there some add-on I should look for, I see
notes about memory changes in the FAQ (256k-512k-1024k) but no actual
product names that I can use when calling mail order places. Thanks!
(If anyone knows of the location of a Gravis marketing type blurb, I'd
like that pretty well, I think.)

Subject: GUS + Cubase Solution ?
Thierry Loo asks about getting the GUS to work with Cubase.
I don't have Cubase but I have played with Cubasis.
Cubasis appears to blindly load patches in order from 0 until it runs out
of GUS RAM, so its possible to force loading of the patches you want by
creating custom banks with bank manager ..
either (i) Stick all the patches you want at the start of the bank - not
too good as you don't end up with a GM standard mapping !
or (ii) Assign the 'blank' patch to instruments you don't want or better
still assign the closest sounding patch of the ones you do want.
Thankfully a patch file is only loaded once when it is assigned
to multiple instrument numbers !
(The load1024.mid file is a good start for a working out a subset of patches
that will fit into 1Meg.)
This way you don't need to bother with the MIDI mapper (midimap.cfg) at all.
I hope this is of interest,

Hmmm, let see... Does the GUSMax sound better than a GUS and do
you know if the new Ensoniq SoundScape Elite board is any good since
Ensoniq makes Musical instruments...

No, I was unclear, when I said 'marketing type blurb' I meant something
written by Gravis. While they are going to tell me a lot of incredibly
marketing type stuff, marketing stuff is usually clear on the actual name
of the specific product (I am wary of doing something stupid, like buying
a daughtercard, thinking it was the main card. I really don't know what
to call the thing!).

FT2 only accepts MIDI Note Off to stop notes. Many keyboards (inc. your
E-30 and our Korg M1) send Note On, velocity 0 instead, and FT doesn't
accept these.

It's crap, but, well, it was free (kinda). Anyway, it works as specified
on our machine - no crashes - so must be something wrong with your setup.

I downloaded MegaEm 3.03b the other day and it works great for games
requiring SBOS (esp. protected mode games). I was wondering, though,
what's the difference between this MegaEm and MAXSBOS?
What does MAXSBOS offer that isn't in SBOS? Does the new MegaEm also
offer these features?
Also, will there be any new SBOS releases?
Thanks,

Subject: Cakewalk Pro 2.0 -- help!
I am writing this note again because I haven't yet found a definitive
solution to my problem.
I have a GUS Max with 1 Meg RAM. Everytime I load a song into Cakewalk
Pro 2.0 (windows), I get an error message that says that I don't have
enough memory and the drums don't work.
I don't have the manuals as I am using my friends 2.0 disks (he upgraded
but can't help me).
Does anybody have step-by-step solutions to this problem? I can solve
this problam if I load the midi file through the Patch Manager, but oh
what a pain.
Thanks.--
